Orchard~~ This is my last place to stay in New Zealand! What can you imagine of staying in orchard?! Dirty? Inconvenient? Cold….? Wrong wrong wrong! Actually I think this is my favorite stay in New Zealand…
Accommodation ~ guess what kind of accommodation I am staying now?
Small tent?
Big tent with bed?
Caravan?
Motor Home?
Poor Hut?
Deng Deng Deng! This is my little lovely home~~ Although this is a small studio, but it is considered to be a “high class property “in the orchard! This is the most comfortable and luxurious private ensuit! Like living in Mont Kiara leh… haha!
I have my own living room with power, sofa, fridge…
Bunk with mattress, heater, TV, privacy… Maybe u’ll think these are all the basic… but after so many backpacker experience… now I realized the happiness for not sharing every facilities with others! Don’t take everything for granted…
And this is a very WARM studio...Here supposed to be hot summer, but sometimes still very cold.. especially at night time.
I even have my own bathroom! (One and only twin studio, so this is consider a most expensive accommodation too~worth it, it is still cheaper than other hostels out there)
Transport
Since it only take us 1 minute by walk to our working place~~! So… we sold our Super Lovely and Reliable AGQ101… sob sob… I’ll miss you…
Leisure
Having outdoor korea Bulgogi with friends …
Watching our friends making a poor little xmas tree...
Eating the endless supply of expensive cherriessssssssss~~
Celebrating xmas! Yummy!
Playing Korea Style Childhood game! Real fun! Now i know Korean really serious in doing everything, including playing game! beat people also use 120% of power...
Watching people do the hair cut... this mobile salon only operate on xmas! Appointment is needed! haha!
Now is William's turn! got magazine n tea somemore! Pro la! Thx for Summer and Berly! :)
Just lie down and enjoy the wind, grass and life…
Since when we forget the beauty of natural and “pause” ourselves to appreciate them?!
Same mother earth… the only change is my mind and view of life…
That's cool! Enjoy and see you soon! XD

ReplyDeletehi, wonderful blog! I was doing research on google and passed by your blog:)
ReplyDeletewe are looking for to go on a Work-holiday too, we just turned 21 and would like to ask you,
how much did you spend during your times in NZ, which farm did you work for [as we're asians and we researched alot, but rarely see them with asians]
It would be great if you could tell us more about the cost of your accomodation,we're not that for the WORK[the money], but more of the experience of working in a farm,
This would really aid us in our planning, after NZ, we'll probably be back to a lifetime of catching up with the rat race in our country :(
hi Yann,
ReplyDeleteGlad to know u r going for the working holiday!
According to what i know, most Asian are working in the orchard rather than the farm. My local friend did brought me to visit a cow farm, most of the workers are from Chile, Argentina n other western countries. But i do not know why. Maybe Asian dislike those "smelly & dirty job".
Fyi, working in orchard is also a wonderful experience, i'll recommend you to work in orchard, then try to find some local friends or try wwoof to hv short farm experience.
The accommodation there is expensive, around NZD100-NZD120 per week. The rest expenses are ok. I don't hv exact figure on how much i spent, but do not worry about that. Almost all the backpackers there can earned more than the expenses or even able to bring some extra money to home. (except for those rich backpackers who does not want to work or like to do accommodation exchange.)
I worked in Apata, Turners n growers, Van Zanten flower bulbs (Through agent) Bennie & son and Sarita(without agent).
Don't go for the agent since we speaks english & able to find the job by our own. Normal wages per week can be NZD 400-700(after tax).
Jul-Nov are the low season for seasonal work, the rest of the season are quite easy to find a job.
Do remember to buy a car if you know how to drive. I can ensure you that you won't regret to own a car there!
Hope the info helps! :)
